Oum Kalthoum (1898-1975) est une chanteuse, musicienne et actrice égyptienne. Surnommée l'«Astre d'Orient», elle est considérée, quarante ans après sa mort, comme la plus grande chanteuse du monde arabe. Son engagement dans des œuvres caritatives lui valut le surnom de « cantatrice du peuple ».

Umm Kulthum (1898-1975)  was an internationally famous Egyptian singer, songwriter, and film actress active from the 1920s to the 1970s. She was given the honorific title Kawkab al-Sharq ("Star of the East") in Arabic. Known for her extraordinary vocal ability and style, Umm Kulthum was one of the greatest and most influential Arab singers of the 20th century. She has sold over 80 million records worldwide.
